Bhai Sahib Bhai Gurdas Singh Ji was the eldest son of Sant Giani Soorat Singh Ji and was born in 1773. At a small age, Baba Ji was learned Gurbani meaning in very detail taught by his Father. Baba Gurdas Singh Ji doing Katha at a small age in the presence of his Father and Panth Khalsa at Sri Harmandir Sahib.

Baba Gurdas Singh Ji was also a great scholar like his respected father.

Baba Ji became the Jathedar of Damdami Taksal after his father and continued the teaching of Gurbani Santhia and performing Katha at Sri Harmandir Sahib.

Baba Ji’s son, Bhai Sahib Bhai  Sher Singh Ji became Shaheed fighting for the Khalsa Panth. Somebody asked them, “What is your emotional state after the Shaheedi of your son?” Baba Ji replied by quoting from Satguru Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji:

“ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਮੋਹ ਮਗਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਾਇ ॥ ਤਬ ਲਗੁ ਧਰਮਰਾਇ ਦੇਇ ਸਜਾਇ ॥”

As long as he is intoxicated with attachment to Maya,  the Righteous Judge – Dharam Raja shall punish him.

After Baba Gurdas Singh Ji left the world for Sach Khand, their younger brother Singh Sahib Giani Sant Singh Ji was honored with the leadership of Damdami Taksal.
